The Travel Almanac , the newest of a growing crop of compact niche magazines (see: Apartamento , Boat and Afterzine ), looks at the art of travel through the perspectives of artists, musicians, writers and filmmakers who are well, well-traveled. The journal was founded two years ago by Paul Kominek, a musician and sometime D.J. from Germany, with the help of his friend John Roberts, an American musician who, like Kominek, lives in Berlin. “By using the topic of traveling as an overarching theme, it gave us an amazing excuse to ask high-profile artists or cultural icons questions that avoid the obligatory ‘What do you do?’ and ‘How did you get started?’ and instead ask about different aspects of their lives that we personally find more interesting,” says Kominek. The first volume, on Japan, debuted this spring. The cover is printed on textured German cardstock, the interior pages on creamy Swedish drawing paper.It provides advice from people like David Lynch, James Murphy and Javier Peres, as well as some photos of the beautiful traditional Japanese inns, known as "ryokan". T turned the tables on Kominek and asked her travel preferences, and its pillars of Berlin.

Favorite Excursions: There are so many beautiful places in the world, and I still see bits of him, but Japan is certainly very high on the list. I really admire the culture, food, and especially their unique bond with nature and how it affects everyday life. As for urban experiences, I am fascinated by Mexico City and can’t wait to go back, as there is a very inspiring energy within this bustling mega-city.
