Napa City Junior Golf Championship Sunday

The Napa City Junior Golf Championship is open to all junior golfers, boys and girls, and will be played at Napa Golf Course in Kennedy Park on Aug. 21. It is recommended that players have experience playing the game and an understanding of the etiquette of the game. Players must have their own set of clubs and additional equipment required to play the game.

To register, call Napa Golf Course at 255-4333; all entrants must pay in advance. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 17. Tee times will be posted Aug. 19.

There are five flights:

• Ages 6-8, six holes from the family tees.

• Ages 9-10, nine holes from the family tees.

• Ages 11-12, nine holes from the gold tees.

• Ages 13-14, 18 holes from the white tees.

• Ages 15-17, 18 holes from the blue tees.

Girls will compete against boys from the same tees except for ages 11-12, 13-14 (gold tees) and ages 15-17 ( white tees).  The format is stroke play, with the exception of ages 6-12, who will pick up after eight shots or twice the par on par 5s. Ages 13-17 will pick up after eight shots on par 3s and one over twice the par on par 4s and par 5s.

All groups will be accompanied by adults to assist in scoring and speed of play. The entry fee is $25. The entry includes prizes, awards, and refreshments after play. Competitors must pre-register at least one week in advance. The first tee times will be at 11 a.m. with the oldest competitors teeing off first and the youngest competitors teeing off last.

Trophies will be given to each flight winner and runner-up depending on number of entrants per flight.

North Bay Grizzlies water polo clinic starts Sunday

The North Bay Grizzlies Water Polo club will hold their fall water polo clinic for 10 consecutive Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Napa Valley College pool, starting Aug. 21.

The clinic is geared toward boys and girls ages 9-13. No previous water polo experience is necessary, but the athlete must be able to swim 100 yards without stopping. A USA water polo registration is necessary for insurance purposes. The cost is $95.
