It was sold as a standalone unit, and the instructions have suggestions for installation into your own custom cabinetry (remember the good ol' days when folks actually built things for themselves?). This is a mono amplifier, with two 6F6 tubes that provide 10 watts of output power. It has standard RCA/phono inputs for radio (hi-lo), turntable (hi-lo), microphone, and an aux input. The amplifier sits inside a classic Machine Age silver putty wrinkle-texture finish steel cabinet and has attractive gold marbleized plastic knobs. A copper-antiqued name badge is prominently displayed for an added touch of class. This amp has been tested and appears to be in fully functioning condition. This vintage tube amp has been well kept, all tubes and lights are working, the knobs don't have any scratchiness in the sound, and the unit is very clean. We have tested all inputs (Lo seems to be the correct input to use). Five of the tubes are obviously original and carry the Stromberg Carlson name. One tube (the center 12 AT7) has lost part of its lettering, so we are not positive it is original to this unit. Speaker inputs include terminals for 4, 8, and 16 ohm speakers, as well as terminals marked 150, 600 and 600 8VU, which I think is for attaching phone lines and other odd devices. We tested the speaker input using the closest thing in age to this amp, an 8 ohm 1963 Electro-Voice Princess. After attaching the common wire to the "C" terminal and the lead wire to the corresponding 8 ohm terminal on the same bar, we were pleased to hear great sound quality from the radio signal input with none of the audible noise or humming associated with damaged tubes or other electrical problems. Cosmetically, there is some light chipping in the finish around a couple of the bottom edges, and the face has some scratches and wrinkling. Some of the inner wiring looks a bit moldy, but overall everything looks pretty good under the hood. Schematic diagram appears under the lid and is completely legible for future reference and maintenence. The 10 page instruction manual is absolutely crammed with information on this unit and its proper useage. It reads more like an airplane flight manual than modern stereo equipment instructions.
