So long cowboy: Scotland's own Wild Bill Hickock dies at 76

A Scot who spent his life following in the footsteps of cowboy Wild Bill Hickok has died at the age of 76.

James Butler Hickok started dressing in western clothing complete with a replica pistol from the age of 20 - and changed his name by deed poll to Wild Bill's real name.

The former council worker, born Wallace Yuill, called his home in Dennistoun, Glasgow, his "ranch" and crammed it with cowboy memorabilia.

His lifestyle helped him raise thousands of pounds for charity and he appeared in several TV shows.

Yesterday, family and friends, some in Wild West-style clothing, listened to tributes to him and country songs at a funeral service in Glasgow.

Pal James Manclark, 67, said: "Bill totally lived and breathed the gunfighting and cowboy life.

"You would always see him with his cowboy clothes. He went to work with them on.

"He also did lots of charity work for people like Stobhill Hospital.

"He was good at charity work because people would approach him easier.
