Baby needs new heart; Redding family waits for suitable donor
The family of a 4-month-old baby is keeping faith that their ailing daughter will get better.
Little Audrey MacIvor, who turns 4 months old Saturday, has a rare heart condition and most likely will require a heart transplant, her mother, Atasha, said Tuesday.
The infant was taken to Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto last week after she was diagnosed with possible infant cardiomyopathy, a weakened heart that's said to affect 12 out of every 1 million children under a year old.
MacIvor said her tiny daughter had open heart surgery Saturday and now has a mechanical heart.
Since that surgery, she said, doctors have been impressed with the baby's strength and feistiness.
"She's showing good signs," MacIvor said. "She's looking good every day."
But it could be months, or longer, before a new heart can be found.
MacIvor, 28, a stay-at-home mother, and her husband, Will, who works at Bethel Church in Redding performing maintenance and security duties, say they are hoping their prayers will be answered.
So do countless others.
A Facebook page, "Prayers For Baby Audrey," has been created for those wanting to pray for her and get updates on her condition.
That Facebook page also instructs people how they can help provide financial assistance.
Friends and family are also planning a July 9 fundraising concert for the family at St. John's Episcopal Church in Marysville.
