In Middletown, July 1 Means Tax Time

Middletown's new fiscal year begins today, which means it's time to fill up the city's coffers by paying our taxes — residential and commercial.

Middletown Tax Collector Lee Muscatello says home, car and business tax bills are being mailed today. They are due by Aug. 1 and incur a 1 and 1/2% interest or a minimum of $2 per month thereafter.

When the Common Council passed the mayor's budget in May, at $130.2 million, it set the mill rate at 26.1, a reduction of three-tenths of a mill over last year.

The average home value assessment in Middletown is $ 165,000, according to the assistant tax assessor Debbie Gill, which is $ 4,306.50 in taxes, a savings of $ 49.50 on the mill rate last year 26.4 mills.

Car taxation under $ 100 are due in full on July 1. Taxes on motor vehicles of more than $ 100 are payable in two equal installments on July 1 and January 1.

Middletown Car Show - 6/10 - Club Cobra

Decent show, usually 8 to 12 Cobras on hand. They used to do two of these Main Street shows, a week night in the Spring and a Sunday in early fall. Budget cutbacks in Town have limited them to just this one show (why they didn't keep the Sunday one I'll never know). Regarless, weather looks good for Wednesday. Hope to see some other "Snakes" there.
